I’m not sure how it’s been in other parts of the country (or in other countries) but the weather here in the North East has been BRUTAL this summer. It almost seems like one long heat wave. I get excited when I hear it’s “only” going to be 90 degrees. We’ve had non-stop 90+ degree days with close to 100% humidity. I can’t remember a summer this bad before.
I know the electric companies are happy with everyone’s electric bill being sky high. We use our AC’s as little as possible because of the expense and because they are not good for the environment. However this summer has been the exception. When it’s 98 degrees outside with 100% humidity and you live on the top floor with direct sunlight all day long you NEED to put the AC on.
If this is a sign of things to come due to global warming then I’ll be on the next spaces ship to Mars! I cannot deal with this disgusting weather.
How many days until the official start of Autumn?
I swear, everyday I feel like I’m melting. It’s even impossible to indulge in things like ice cream because no sooner do you get it the ice cream melts into a gooey pile of sugar and cream.
Popsicle makes a special Popsicle that actually melts slowly, giving you time to actually enjoy it before it becomes a sugary, liquid stain maker. The Popsicles are called Slow Melt. That is easy enough to remember.
At first I was a bit put off by the idea of a Popsicle that melts slowly. It got me thinking about what kind of funky chemicals or mysterious ingredients would be lurking inside to prevent it from melting too fast. The mystery ingredient is actually no mystery at all – it’s gelatin!
I picked up a box of Slow Melt Popsicles for my kids and they couldn’t tell the difference between them and regular Popsicles. They taste just the same. I even had one myself and I couldn’t notice a difference. They tasted the same. It’s the Popsicle it’s self that seemed a bit different as far as the texture but nothing obvious. Considering the kids inhaled the box of Slow Melt Popsicles in the matter of days I have a feeling they didn’t notice any kind of difference.
Popsicle has partnered with National Geographic Kids to help Slow the Melt. Whether it’s shutting off the lights every time they leave the room or turning off the water while brushing their teeth, there are very easy steps kids (and adults!) can take to help. In fact, National Geographic Kids created 10 simple things kids can do every day to help slow the melt of the polar ice caps.
It breaks my heart when I learn about what is going on at our polar ice caps. They are melting at a rapid pace. Not only does this raise sea levels (and cause flooding and other problems) but it’s also killing off species including Polar Bears!
There are things we can do to help. Please visit http://www.popsicle.com/kids/slow-the-melt.aspx to learn what you can do to help.
Popsicle is also taking to Twitter to help raise funds for research and exploration efforts to help decrease the impact of global climate change by encouraging Twitter users to include the #SlowTheMelt hashtag in their Tweets.
From July 12, 2010 through August 15, 2010, every Tweet containing the hashtag #SlowTheMelt, Popsicle will donate $1, up to $25,000, to the National Geographic Polar Fund. The funds will go towards supporting research and exploration efforts of the polar ice caps and global warming issues.
Popsicle even has some fun FREE games online that your children (or yourself) can enjoy.
Popsicle has four new fun games in the Slow Melt Game Zone on : Galactic Match, Penguin Crossing, Sea-the-Difference and Big Dig Pinball.
I LOVE the Penguin Crossing game. I have played in more times then I can count. It’s a lot like the popular 80’s arcade Frogger but with Penguins, Whales and other fun objects.
The other games are fun too. Even though they are aimed at children, as an adult, I had a lot of fun with them too.
The next time you are in the mood for a sweet treat you should pick up a box of Slow Melt Popsicles. Another tasty choice are the Jolly Rancher Popsicles. I am not fond of Jolly Rancher candies (too sweet!) but the Jolly Rancher Popsicles were pretty good. They have a bit of a tart (sour) taste and more of a “kick” then regular Popsicles, but they weren’t bad at all. My kids loved them too. Then again I have to find a Popsicle brand product that my kids don’t like. LOL!
