Cash Cab – The funnest game show on television ($50+ Giveaway – ends 3/17/12)

About a year or so ago my daughter kept talking about this game show she saw on TV called Cash Cab. She told me she watched it whenever it came on the television. In fact, every time we’d go into NYC she would keep an eye out for the cab. LOL! I don’t know why. It’s not like we would just hop in the cab and go someplace. We always walk when we go into the city.

The Cash Cab seems like an ordinary taxi cab, that is until you sit down inside and all the bells and whistles go off. Cash Cab is a game show on wheels!

The whole idea behind Cash Cab is to answer a serious of questions and earn cash before reaching your destination. You are allowed some help, like asking a random stranger on the side of the road to see if they know the answer. Or they can call someone on the phone.

If you answer correctly you win cash. If you give the wrong answer you get a strike. Three strikes and you are literally out – the driver and host, Ben Bailey, will pull over where ever you are when you get the third strike and boot you out of the cab. Even if you are no where near your destination. Wow… that’s harsh. Ha Ha.

My daughter is the one who turned me on to the show. I love to watch it too. I sometimes find myself shouting the answers at the contestants on the screen. But I think we all do that when we watch game shows.

Now Cash Cab is now in syndication and will be airing 5 times per week.

Cash Cab is like a little bit of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Family Feud and Candid Camera all rolled into one.

  4. I lived in South America for a couple of years and we didn’t have a car so cabs and buses were our mode of transportation.

  9. i’ve been in a cab once, and i lost my wallet. that’s about as crazy as it gets. but i love cash cab!

  13. I used to travel quiet a bit for work so riding in cabs was the norm. No funny/strange stories though. They were all pretty cut and dry cab rides, from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport. Recently my daughter and I had to hail a cab for a doctor visit. My daughter had been in a serious automobile accident and was flown via med-flight to a trauma center about 90 minutes from our home. I was taken to the hospital to be with her, by our pastor and was there without transportation. When she was released from the hospital we chose to stay close for a couple of days due to outpatient doctor visits. It seemed easier to stay than for her to travel since she was still so early in recovery and still dealing with the trauma from the accident. Unfortunately we had issues with getting a rental car so we had to depend on a cab service to get to and from the doctor’s offices. Our first cabbie was awesome. He was very gentle and supportive of her fears of being in an automobile and was very careful in getting us to the doctor’s office. However, the return driver couldn’t have cared one way or the other. He actually had the nerve to drive with the window down and his car reeked of cigarette smoke. He was very rude. Needless to say … he didn’t get a tip!

  28. I have been in a cab before and the only story I have is that we were in LA and scared $h!tle$$ when the guy was weaving in and out of traffic and I actually feared for our lives. I never went in one again!

  50. I have been in a cab twice. I was always shocked at how quick the price on the machine goes up!

  66. I’ve only been in a cab in Colombia and it was terrifying. The drivers were all crazy and right on the sidewalk next to where we were waiting at a red light, two ladies got into a fight and one pulled out a knife. AHHH!!

  76. I’ve been in several cabs. I’m from Chicago – taxi drivers are rarely calm and sane in their driving.

  85. I have been in a cab a few times but the worse thing that has happened in it is some crazy driving!

  104. I occasionally use a cab when I travel, but I prefer to us public transportation if I am traveling light. Foreign countries are always a challenge if you don’t speak the language and although many cabbies understand some English, they may not be able to speak it very well (but much better than I can speak theirs!). The cabs in Moscow, Russia, are typically small (like most European cabs), but get in one that has the fewest dents. Moscow traffic is amazing there are streets that are eight lanes wide and sometimes there is someone in the far left lane that decides it needs to make a right turn and will do so across eight lanes of traffic at rush hour! Yikes! Luckily the cab I was in didn’t do things like that. So always make sure your insurance is paid up!

  110. I was only in a cab when I was little. My mom didnt drive, and my father worked long hours because he was a cop. My mom would sometimes call a cab to take us to visit my grandmother (which was on the other side of town). Seems like back then there were more cabs in our area. I don’t see too many these days.

  122. I flew back into Kalispell from the east coast after a snowstorm in the Flathead Valley that left two feet of new snow on the ground. There are two cabs in the whole town and if you arrive late in the evening, you have to call and arrange for one the day before.

    It’s 11:00PM when I got off the airplane. There were about 10 of us waiting for two cabs. One to go one way and one to go the other way. I ended up in a compact sedan with 4 or 5 other people+the driver heading south. We set off, dropping people off as we got to their houses.

    One of the people in the cab with us was really drunk. (I didn’t think they served you enough alcohol to get drunk on airplanes.) She had a hard time finding her door. We watched as she kind of staggered around in the snow. She finally found her door…

    Then there was the cabbie who took me on a driving tour of Boston, trying to avoid tolls and traffic. When we got to my hotel there was over $100 on the meter, (the same trip, minus the driving tour, cost me $35 the day before). The cabbie was genuinely upset and charged me $40… He got a good tip.

    The next day I tried a bus… I thought I was never going to get back to my hotel… I would have killed for a GPS.

  124. i’ve been in a cab in mexico ,4 women in a geo metro and they had speed bumps not lights,.the driver never slowed down he was going about 45 mph.my friends put me in the front seat OMG never again

  134. We were in New York City for a basketball game and took a cab. What was funny was that when we were walking along the sidewalk, people would open the door of a cab and ask if they were the Cash Cab. I’m sure the other taxi drivers in NYC HATE that show.

  151. I have been in a cab before and have a crazy cab story.

    It was a few days after my daughter passed away. We were in New York for what was to be her last wish trip. The hotel (Trump) had rolled out the red carpet for us, knowing we’d just lost our daughter and sister. One day we came back, and they’d left a gift basket of goodies on the bed.

    In it were several juice boxes which my son hadn’t finished when we leaving. So, he drank them all very fast and then we got in the cab. He began to feel nauseous when the cab driver said “Don’t let him puke in here!”. Okay then….as if I can control that.

    My son did wind up puking in the cab. We gave him a nice tip and still chuckle about that…the only funny memory of that trip.

  165. been in several cabs b4, in us and england. cab ride in nyc i will never forget, the driver kidnapped me and would not let me out of the cab. so when he stopped at a stoplight, i threw some money at him and jumped out and ran….i was abt 22 yrs old. it was late at night.

  175. I just rode in a cab for the first time Feb 24th this year on hubby and I anniversary after dancing the night away at coyote ugly in Vegas. To go 3 miles cost us $20, which is high to me granted they charge you as you sit at stop lights (and he took the longer route). But I always wanted to ride in one, saved my mom to come pick us up (who took care of our daughter) and wait to sober up (didn’t want to still drive incase wasn’t 100% sober as dont believe in Drink n Drive).

    I still want to take a cab in New York, just to say I have.

  188. The only times I’ve been in a cab were when my mother, sister and I went to a taping of Oprah in Chicago and when I went to New York for BlogHer 2010. It was definitely an experience! Lol

  196. I’ve been in a cab several times. I don’t have any crazy stories. I did have to give the driver directions one time and I dated a cab driver once.

  207. I have been a zillion cabs. Once I got stuck in one with a bunch of drunk guys, once I got someone who didn’t speak english, and another time I got in trouble at school because i smelt like cigarette smoke and was late-it wasn’t me, it was the cab driver who chain-smoked the whole way and made so many stops that I missed part of my first hour class.

  223. I have ridden in cabs several times and all the rides were crazy! There was the one with the cabbie that smelled like a corpse soaked in patchouli or the other one that insisted he knew the address he was taking me to as he whizzed past it. Or there was the time the cab didn’t have seat belts in the back and he kept stomping the breaks so hard that we were slamming into the seats in front. Good times….

  234. I was only in one in Chicago. He was sort of scary. He said they don’t have to stop at red lights you just honk before you go through I was covering my eyes. lol

  241. I do not like to ride in cabs by myself – I have always had this fear that Im going to get kidnapped.

    One time, I was in NYC with my sweetie. It was early on in our relationship. It was my first time there. We parked the car many streets away from this comedy club we were going to. We walked together, and then realized we needed more money in the meter. Someone had to stay in line while the other put money in the meter. I wanted to put the money in the meter instead of trying to get tickets to a sold-out show (we were on the waitlist). The plan (in his head) was for me to take a cab to the car, put the money in, and be back quickly. This is also before I had a cell phone. I took one look at some of the cabbies and decided to walk to the car. I made it there and back – all from memory using visual landmarks. However, I took 1 and 1/2 hours so my sweetie panicked. When I got to the comedy club, he had gone looking for me. In the end, he came back. I was there. We had tickets and he never lets me forget my stubbornness.

  245. I only really take taxis when I’m traveling, like from the airport to hotel! I did actually get to tell a taxi driver to “FOLLOW THAT CAR!” this summer, though! 😉 (He didn’t know how to get where we were going, and our friends were in the taxi in front of us.)

  248. I have been in a few taxi’s… one memorable ride was in Antigua. SPEEDING!!!!! down I very narrow one lane road.

  260. Yes, been in a cab. Don’t remember it’s been so many years ago… lately the “cabs” have been lincoln town cars without “TAXI” or any designation on them when we take them from airport to home, etc.

  269. I rode in a taxi in Chicago after a day of drinking with friends. The driver thought we were fun lol

  283. My craziest cab ride was in Savannah GA when the cab driver had no less than 50 bags of cheetos in the front seat with him (of course he was on his third bag but the time my ride ended)!

  290. I used to take cabs all over when I lived in downtown Chicago. It was awesome not to be tied to a car! Once my husband and I rode in one covered with Christmas lights inside. It was on one of our first dates 12 years ago 🙂

  336. I have never ridden in a cab, let alone the Cash Cab. I don’t live near a large city, so there isn’t really a need to call a cab.. maybe one day.

  348. Even though i live in the city now,i have only been in a taxi ‘van’ once. It was about 18 years ago when i was 17 and a friend and i went to a concert(Pearl Jam haha).Well we were suppose to meet her older sister after the show because she was driving but we couldn’t find her anywhere.
    Oh no, i knew i was going to get grounded for being late! We were a little nervous,that was a time before cell phones!
    I had 20 dollars left because i didnt buy a tshirt but the cab ride was going to be $40.Some drunk guys who were going down the street to their hotel room overheard that we didnt have enough money and one of them gave me twenty dollars and let us use the taxi. I will always remember that because besides their generosity they were also gentleman and didn’t try to get us to go with them or anything.
    Grounded..of course..but still happy to get home safely!

  455. I have been in a cab before. Fly into LAX to go to DisneyLand and caught a cab to the hotel. I said it then and I’ll say it again I will never ride in a cab again! I thought I was going to not make it to the hotel with the crazy driver that we had. LOL Thanks for the giveaway!

  476. I used to work in DC, so I have taken cabs more times than I can count! I really don’t have any crazy stories to tell, but I can tell you that many times I felt like I was holding onto the door handle for dear life!

    As a family, we’ve once had to take a cab when our car battery died on vacation in another state. As soon as we got in, my son said “Oh man, I really hope this is the cash cab.” LOL.

  494. I’ll never forget years ago my friend and I (who live in the north) flew to Florida, and she had never been before. We did not rent a car, so we had to take a taxi to the hotel. I told her to act like we took cabs all of the time and not let on that we didn’t know how far we had to go, as the driver might take us around in circles increasing the fare. Despite the warning, almost immediately after we had gotten in the cab, my friend, all excited, said loud and clear “Oh my god Bonnie! – is that a palm tree?” Needless to say, it was an expensive ride!!! lol
