A week or so ago I posted about a new movie coming to theaters on July 5, 2013 called The Way, Way Back. It looks like a wonderful movie and I honestly can’t wait to see it.
The film stars Steve Carell, Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, Toni Collette, Maya Rudolph, Amanda Peet, Rob Corddry, AnnaSophia Robb and Liam James.
The Way, Way Back is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world – all during a summer he will never forget.
Here is a trailer for the film.
The film is rated PG-13. I’m thinking of taking both of my kids to see it. My son is almost 14 and my daughter is 16. It might be a fun movie for them too.
The Way, Way Back is from the same people who brought us Juno, Little Miss Sunshine and 500 Days of Summer.
If you would like to learn more about the film you can visit the official website. You can also check out the film on Facebook and follow the film on Twitter (@TheWayWayBack). You can also check it out using the hashtag #TheWayWayBack.

We had so many crazy family vacations it is hard to pick one funny memory, but right now I am thinking of the time we went swimming at Ft Walton Beach in FL and it was a bad time of year for seaweed. So, when we all got done we looked like a family of Swamp Things covered in it! We even had it all down inside of our suits and had to use the outdoor showers to get it off.
We took our 4 year old son to Disneyland and watched the outdoor performance there. Our son was so excited, he was dancing, singing and got more attention than the singers on the stage
10 hour drives to florida to visit grandparents, the games the fights espeically with sister, all good memories
Last summer, my brother-in-law’s girlfriend went canoeing for the first time. She also capsized a canoe for the first time! She was fine, and we all had a good laugh.
Sounds like a good movie—
Funny vacation would be the year we went fishing in florida on the beach/bank in Mayport, Florida and my son lifted up his fishing pole and was excited a he had a fish on line and dropped pole to clap hands and away went the pole with the fish down the st John river to the ocean…was funny.. except he cried…over the fish not the pole..
I remember a road trip to the Bay Area from So Cal with my sister and parents we bickered the whole way and drove our parents nutty I’m sure.
we had to haul a slot car track from Iowa to Wisconsin in a tiny van.. hilarious.
Many years ago, we were heading to Florida from Michigan with the kids and stopped at a place in TN. It was a very weird place, something that seemed like out of a movie. The people gave us terrible looks and we felt uncomfortable. We stayed and my husband laid next to the window to keep an eye on our van. The next morning, I had gotten up and left to go get coffee and some donuts for the kids. He heard the van and tore out of the room chasing ME thinking someone took off with our vehicle and he was in his underwear and all. The kids got all scared thinking someone stole our van so at the time, not too funny to them.
I always had to sit between my brother and sister so they wouldn’t fight…wasn’t funny then, but I think it is now 🙂
Wow ~ it has been so long since we had a family vacation I am having a hard time with this one. I remember one time when we went to the beach and after going to dinner at Midevil Times we couldn’t find our way back to the hotel and a 30 minute drive back took 2 hours because Dan wouldn’t ask for directions. Men!

My funniest memory is when my parents had planned this fantastic beach vacation that turned into a nightmare. On the first day we realized that the hotel was actually less than desirable so my parents at short notice managed to find a caravan to stay in. It then rained for the whole 9 days we were there and I managed to come down with Chicken Pox! That said it was fun just being a family
I was walking along the boardwalk with a big cup of fries when seagulls attacked us!
We always went camping and I love when we would go to the dump and watch the black bears it was the best
We had a beach vacation when I was really young. My mom had just taken off her swimsuit and threw on her bathrobe. She went outside real quick to hang the swimswuit on the rail in front of our room, and somehow, I managed to shut the door and accidentally lock her out of the room. She was stuck outside in nothing but a bathrobe! Luckily, a very helpful maid was able to help her out and get back outside.

when my dad got lost going to the motel at the beach and we ended up 20 mins away but we were all just laughing
The teenagers went tubing down the river and ended up in the next down. Thank goodness for cell phones.
My little brother kissing a fish he caught was funny to me.
My funniest memory is all the times my parents made us ‘hold it’ for hours before they finally would stop for a bathroom break
We were vacationing in Florida and went to the beach. A lady came up to me while we were deeper in the water and whispered, “I don’t want to scare him, but there’s a manatee passing by’ She was referring to my sweetie who was oblivious to this very large creature cruising by him. He didn’t even turn back to see it, but bolted out of the water. I was so excited to be in the presence of it, but I was not as close as he was – thank goodness (I may have passed out). We laugh about this experience often.
standing on the beach in florida eating a sandwich i turned my head for a second and a seagull stole my sandwich
DD was about 3 on our long fly trip to Japan years ago, an hour after boarding she told every single stewardess they were beautiful and were all like princesses, this was the best day in her life to meet them.
Can’t think of a specific funny story, but the vacations my family took to Disney were full of memorable moments!
Getting lost in some mountains on the way to California from Texas…first time I heard my mother curse…
When I was 5 or 6 I traveled with my parents from Texas to Oklahoma. They kept telling me when we passed “the Tea Cup” we’d be in Oklahoma. I was so disappointed to find that it was a restaurant on the border and not a giant tea cup.
I remember when I was 10 years old and my parents decided to take a vacation in Texas. My Mom booked the hotel room and when we got there it was a total “roach motel”. It was horrible. 1st the motel was supposed to be on the beach and it was not even close at all to the beach. 2nd it smelled. Needless to say we decided to spend the extra and get a better motel room. Worst vacation ever but now I smile everytime I think about it.

When I was a kid, I once spilled soft drinks on all these t-shirts we bought and didn’t say anything so they al ended up shrinking ridiculously!
we went to san Antonio and didn’t have a spare tire and got a flat.. so horrible.. we had to walk for miles to the nearest gas station for help
We have many funny vacation memories, but we once drove from Central Illinois to DC for a weekend.
I grew up in Phoenix, AZ, and one summer we went to visit family living on a farm in Oklahoma. We played in the pastures and were called in for dinner. I remember thinking it was weird when my relative starting looking under and around the socks at my cousins’ ankles. I thought it was even more strange when she started feeling around my socks as well! My face must have showed my bewilderment because later she pulled me aside and explained she was checking for ticks. Honestly, I thought she might have been checking for rattlesnake or spider bites! I had never heard of ticks before!
My mom locking her keys in the car at a waterpark
Family camping trip 🙂 I went early to set things up. While in the tent that night, raccoons tried to break in! Scared me so much! The family laughed about it the whole trip 🙂
Once when we were kids our parents took us camping. My mom woke up after sleeping in the tent for one night, to find she had a beetle in her underwear. She ran screaming from the tent. We still laugh about it.
Once went on vacation and we got stranded in a downpour of rain that made the passanger side of my car start leaking by the foot section lol it had never done it before and it never did it again!
my cousin lost his bottoms on the water slide, funny for us not so much for him
Our favorite vacation memory was going through the Science Center in Philly. There was one exhibit that had the planets, sun and moon. You were directed to stand in one spot. It was here that my daughter learned the universe DID revolve around her.
I don’t recommend that exhibit.
Camping on the Grand Mesa. Beautiful wildflowers all around. The best til free roaming cows came into view and ATE ALL the flowers! Stunned and tickled at the same time. They ate then left…
On vacation with my family several years ago we were swimming when someone yelled out there was a turtle next to me. I screamed and swam off, and my family hasn’t let me live it down since.
one time when my family went to myrtle beach, my brother and I got into the wrong van thinking it was our parents…we quickly realized we were in the wrong car.

I had a 20 oz soda explode all over me at the first stop of a 13 hour long trip. Noy funny for me at the time.
It seems every family vacation is fun when traveling with little ones, it is just amazing to see things through their eyes. My three year old is always surprising us with the things he comes up with
On a family vacation we all got sick from a boat ride, but my 4yr old had a little lisp at the time and he was talking about how we all got sick on this boat ride. He said I sick, You sick, We all sick. Only problem was he his lisp makes him pronounce D instead of S lol.
This looks like a really good movie….
We had a blast on Key West last year.
Thanks for the chance/1
My parents took us kids to a waterpark. We were on a major slide, Dad thinks I should try it to. He gets on and starts heading down the slide. His bathing suit somehow detaches from his body. He hits the pool at the end and his bathing suit flys over his head and landed in front of him.
My daughter brought her pet hamster and it got out in the car in the middle of the night!
We brought home a kitten from a NY trip one summer and it made a hilarious meow sound all the way home.
Thanks for the chance to win!

I don’t have any really funny vacation stories! 🙁
Probably the best one was camping with my Mom in Massachusetts when she just drove off into the forest with her purse on top of the car (yes it fell off) and didn’t even notice for 3 days. Miraculously, the forest rangers had it when we left!
left the wife at the water park didnt relize t till we got half hour away
My sister got a little lost in the woods and thought that yodeling would help us find her.
The first time we saw the ocean. We collected shells, swam and made sand castles.
My funniest story is my honeymoon because it was the most disastrous. We went on a cruise, I got seasick, fell down a flight of stairs, we got a parking ticket on a rented scooter, we got food spilled all over us and we lost the key to our jet ski when we fell in and were stranded out in the ocean waiting for someone to bring us a new key. All we could do was laugh and figure our marriage could only go up from there! (10 years next month!)
Thanks~
One year my family went camping through Europe, and my grandmother ended up almost floating around inside the tent on her air mattress, as it started pouring down in the middle of the night.
Going to Florida with the family. My dad hated the drive with four fighting kids.
We used the car engine to reheat a couple of burritos
My funniest vacation memory is the time I went tent camping with my daughter and her friend. They held a Christmas in July Party and the kids went wild thinking of ideas to decorate. Paper towel covered pots stacked three high for a snowman and marshmellows strung on branches for snow. Iam 64 years old and sorry thats all I can remember ,wish their was more.
We once went to the beach with my moms friend and she fell asleep and snored so loud.
After warning me to be careful with the boat oar, I did end up accidentally hitting my Dad in the head. THUNK
I remember all the fun times we had on vacation when I was a kid.
My brother was always so annoying in those long car rides. Once on the way back from Mexico, he made this puppet he bought talk to us for 6 whole hours..the puppet was later found broken..whoops, wonder who did it.
the time we went on a road trip to VA and the garmin kept taking us to the wrong places
it wasnt very funny then but funny now looking back on it. my parents and best friend had been planning a vacation for a while. when we finally got there my best friend got really sick, and the next day my dad got sick with the flu. I cant believe that they both got sick on the days we were going on vacation. we had to end our vacation early but everyone was fine the next day.
My Mom ( not an avid swimmer ) wanted to experience the water chute ride. I promised to be at the bottom, ready to help her upon her landing. Mom pushed off, executed the slide perfectly, and then dropped into the pool of water at the bottom. She then began to flail and shriek with her arms up in the air, thinking that she would start to sink. I got close to her and told her to stand up. The water was only 3 1/2 feet deep.
It wasn’t funny to dad but he locked hsself in a stor’e bathroom. He was pounding on the wall. Of course the cops showed up. They assuned he was crazy or something. He wasn’t happy talking his way out of that.
we took a trip to woodstock when my son was six, He had such a great time. We hung out with a bunch of old hippies in some hammocks & played with rainsticks. He still remembers it.
We always have a fun time on vacation… too many funny times to even think of just one right now! 🙂
The funniest story is when we decided to go on a fishing trip for the first time in our lives on our vacation. First my mom lost her pole when she cast it and the pole went with the cast. My dad fished it for her but was soaking wet. My mom went to grab a towel but ended up knocking the worms out of the boat. Needless to say it was our one and only fishing trip!
When I was 8, we went on a camping trip for the weekend. It rained the entire weekend.
smores on the beach with the whole family in teeny, tiny chairs that we all had a very hard time getting up and out of!
I think it had to be when my little sis saw a dolphin for the first time. She freaked out and tried to save us by telling us to run away.
I remember my older sister getting pinched on the hind end by a crab one vacation.
missing my campsite.
